Things You Should Know Before Buying Best Spotify Smartwatch

Let us look at certain things that you should know before you decide to purchase a smart watch with Spotify.

1) Pre-Installed Spotify App

The first thing that you need to know is that you will have to install Spotify on almost every smartwatch and it does not come pre-installed. So if your smartwatch does not have a Spotify app then it does not mean that it does not support Spotify. You just have to download it on the smartwatch. And the process of downloading the app will differ from watch to watch.

2) Spotify Premium

You need a premium account of Spotify to use it on your smartwatch. There is just no option to use the free version on a smartwatch.

3) Live Stream Spotify

In most smartwatches, you will only be able to download songs from Spotify and you can not actually stream songs online. And you cannot also download a particular song, rather you will be able to download a whole Spotify playlist.

4) Inbuilt Speaker

Not every smartwatch comes with an inbuilt speaker therefore you will not be able to listen to songs on the watch itself. To listen to the Spotify playlist, you will need a Bluetooth earphone or speaker.

5) Internal Storage

As discussed, you will need to download the songs on your smartwatch. Therefore you need good internal storage on your smartwatch so that you can download maximum songs on it. To give you an idea, you will be able to download around 150-180 songs on 1 GB of storage. Also, remember that any additional app that you will install on your smartwatch will also eat up your watch’s internal storage.

Best Smartwatches With Spotify

Let us look at the smartwatches with Spotify support one by one.

1) Garmin Forerunner 245 Music

Best Running Smartwatch With Spotify

Garmin Forerunner 245 Music is the best men’s and women’s running smartwatch with Spotify. This watch supports Spotify and I was able to listen to my favorite tracks on Spotify while working out.

However, Spotify does not come pre-installed on it and I had to install it from the Connect IQ store first. Once it was installed then I was able to use it on my Garmin Forerunner 245 Music. But let me tell you the experience of using the Spotify app on the smartwatch is very different from using it on a smartphone. And you got to have the Spotify premium account to be able to use it on your smartwatch.

Garmin Forerunner 245M Spotify

The thing that I liked about this smartwatch is that it comes with an internal storage of 3.5GB which the company claims can store around 500 songs. But I think it will be able to store more than 500 songs. Anyways I hardly listen to 200 songs so I did not test how many songs it can hold. But the advantage of having internal storage is that I was able to download songs from Spotify to the watch itself. And then I was able to listen to these songs while running without connecting to my phone. One thing to note here is that the watch does not has an inbuilt speaker so to listen to the songs you will have to connect wireless earphones or headphones.

Another thing that you should know is that you will only be able to download a playlist on your smartwatch and not a particular song. And downloading the songs on the watch consumes a lot of battery so it is advisable to download them while charging.

Forerunner 245M also supports Pandora, Deezer, and Amazon Prime Music other than Spotify. Therefore you can also use these on your smartwatch. And if you do not like to pay a premium to these music service providers then there is good news for you. You can also upload offline songs to the watch and listen to them by connecting Bluetooth headphones or earphones.

You can also check out our Garmin Forerunner 245M music setup video to know how to set up Spotify and upload music to it.

Other features of this watch include inbuilt GPS, Gorilla Glass 3 protection on the watch face, heart rate, sleep, and stress monitor, advanced performance metrics tracking and analysis, etc.

Overall this is one of the best affordable smartwatches for running that have Spotify capability. So if you are a runner like me then go ahead and grab it right away.

The Good
  • Supports Deezer, Pandora, and Amazon Prime Music too
  • Offline songs can also be downloaded
  • Heart rate, SpO2, and sleep monitor
  • Advanced performance tracking
  • 50M water-resistant rating
The Bad
  • Build quality is not up to the mark considering the price

2) Samsung Galaxy Watch 5

smartwatch with offline spotify

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 is one of the best Android smartwatches compatible with Spotify. If you own an Android device or a Samsung smartphone then you will not get a better option than this.

Like Garmin Forerunner 245M, you will have to first install the Spotify app on the Galaxy Watch from the Google Play Store. And you also require a Spotify premium account to be able to play music on your Samsung Galaxy Watch 5.

Once installed, I was able to download my Spotify playlists on the Galaxy Watch 5 itself. Unlike the 3.5GB internal storage of the Forerunner 245M, Galaxy Watch 5 comes with an internal storage of 16GB. As a result, you will be able to download more songs on the Galaxy Watch 5.

The advantage of the Galaxy Watch 5 over the Forerunner 245M is that it even has an inbuilt speaker therefore I was able to listen to my favorite tracks without my smartphone or headphones.

This is also one of the fewest smartwatches that have an ECG feature, WiFi, and LTE connectivity. The exercise list of the Galaxy Watch 5 has more than 90 sports modes therefore you will be able to track your sports sessions. Heart rate monitor with irregular heart rate alerts, sleep tracker, SpO2 monitor, etc. are some of the other features of this watch.

Overall, if you are looking for the best smartwatch with offline Spotify then your search ends here. You can also watch my detailed Galaxy Watch 5 review to learn more about it.

The Good
  • Great aesthetics
  • 90+ sports modes
  • ECG feature

3) Apple Watch SE 2

watch se 2

Apple Watch SE 2 is the best Apple smartwatch that is compatible with Spotify. If you own an iPhone and are looking for a perfect smartwatch for your iPhone with Spotify then this is the best watch that you can have.

Like other watches on this list, I had to install Spotify from the App Store. After installing it, I was also able to control the music on the watch and I could also pair my Bluetooth headphones and listen to my favorite tracks.  However, it does not allow you to download Spotify music on your smartwatch for standalone listening. But if you want to listen Spotify without phone then you can get the cellular version of the watch.

Nonetheless, Apple Watch SE 2 also has an inbuilt speaker, like the Galaxy Watch 5, so I was also able to listen to the songs on the watch itself. I have done it’s microphone test, check it out yourself.

Apple Watch SE 2 is one of the smartwatches that come with a fall detection feature, making it one of the best fitness trackers for seniors. You can also watch my dedicated Apple Watch SE 2 review for better clarity.

The Good
  • Fall detection
  • LTE connectivity
  • Contactless payments
  • Wide selection of third-party apps
  • Inbuilt GPS
  • Affordable

4) Fitbit Versa 3

fitbit versa 3

Fitbit Versa 3 is the cheapest smartwatch on this list that comes with built-in GPS and Spotify. Like the Garmin Forerunner 245M, this watch also supports Deezer and Pandora other than Spotify. However, you need to have a premium account for these apps to be able to use them on the smartwatch.

Unlike other watches on this list, Fitbit Versa 3 does not let you download the Spotify music playlist on the watch and you will only be able to control the music through your watch. As a result, if you want to listen to music through Spotify then you need to connect the watch to your smartphone.

However, you can download your Deezer and Pandora playlists to the watch and then can listen to them without connecting to your cell phone.

The smartwatch comes with an inbuilt speaker therefore you can even listen to your songs without connecting Bluetooth headphones to it.

The downside of this watch as compared to other watches on this list is that you cannot upload offline songs to it. And you will only be able to stream music through one of the three above-mentioned apps, which require a premium to use.

Fitbit Versa 3 is one of the few smartwatches that come with Alexa as well as Google voice assistant. Therefore you will be able to use whichever you like the most.

Other features of the watch include inbuilt GPS, 24/7 heart rate monitor, sleep tracker, activity tracker, built-in speaker and mic to take calls, etc. To learn more about Fitbit Versa 3 go watch my detailed review of it.

Like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5, you will need to download the Spotify app from the Google Play Store. And it is needless to say that you need a Spotify premium account to use it on the smartwatch.

Like the Forerunner 245M, you will need to install the Spotify app from Garmin’s Connect IQ store. This watch also has an inbuilt storage of 16 GB as compared to the 3.5GB of Forerunner 245M.
