Does Galaxy Watch Have A Blood Pressure Monitor?
Does your Samsung Watch 4, 5, or 6 have a blood pressure monitor? You might think that the BP feature is not on your Galaxy Watch, but at least technically that’s not the case. This is because even though the Galaxy Watches are fully capable of measuring your Blood pressure, the feature is by default missing in some countries.
Mainly due to pending clearances and certifications from the country’s respective public health administration. If you live in such a region or country then you won’t be able to use the BP feature on your Galaxy Watch until Samsung gets the necessary approvals from the concerned authorities.
Note: The BP feature is only supported on Galaxy Watches that are paired with a Samsung phone. If your watch is paired to a non-Samsung phone then the Blood pressure monitor will not work.
How To Get & Set up Blood Pressure On Galaxy Watch 4, 5, 6?
It is a really simple and easy process to calibrate BP on your Galaxy Watch. However, for some watches, it requires activation or setup, whereas for others it comes pre-activated. This is because in some regions the approval by authorities came after the Galaxy Watches went on sale. So for some watches, the blood pressure and ECG feature on Galaxy Watch may come through a software update, whereas in others it comes right out of the box. Therefore, I’ve mentioned all the steps to set up, activate, and calibrate blood pressure on the Galaxy Watch.
Note: The following steps will only work in regions where the Blood pressure feature is available.
How To Set Up & Enable Blood Pressure On Galaxy Watch?
If you do not have the blood pressure feature on your Galaxy Watch then first you will need to activate it. For that, follow the below-mentioned steps.
Note: If you have Blood Pressure already present on your watch then you can skip this part. Also if your watch is updated to the latest software version but you still do not have this feature, then it might not be available in your country.
1. Go to Settings on your Galaxy Watch and open Software update.
2. Tap on Download and install. If your Galaxy Watch has a pending update then you’ll have to install it.
3. After the update is installed and your Samsung Watch has finished rebooting, you’ll find the Blood pressure and ECG feature in the Add tiles section.
How To Calibrate Or Activate Blood Pressure On Galaxy Watch?
Before you start to calibrate your Samsung smartwatch, make sure that you use a medical-grade Blood pressure monitor to calibrate the watch.
1. To calibrate your Samsung Watch, go to the Blood pressure tile, tap on Learn more and allow the permissions.
2. After that, you’ll be prompted to download the Samsung Health Monitor app. So download it if you haven’t already installed it on your phone.
3. Next, you have to open the Health Monitor app on your phone, accept the Terms, and allow the necessary permissions.
4. Now, tap on Calibrate the watch and make sure to go through the How to Use guide. The measurement will start automatically within a few seconds.
5. At the same time, take BP measurements using a medical-grade cuff-based Blood pressure monitor. Make sure to wear the cuff on the hand opposite to the one you’re wearing the watch in.
6. After the measurement, enter the reading in your Samsung Health Monitor app and tap on Done. You have to repeat this process two more times.
After the calibration is finished, tap on OK and that’s it. Now your Samsung Watch is ready to measure your Blood Pressure on the go.
How Accurate Is Galaxy Watch Blood Pressure Monitor?
The Galaxy Watch’s Blood pressure accuracy is remarkable. The National Library of Medicine conducted a study to validate the BP measurement accuracy of smartwatches. The tests were conducted between a Samsung Watch and conventional BP monitors to check the difference in the BP readings. After the tests were concluded, it was found that the smartwatches gave reliable and accurate Blood Pressure readings.
Even though Galaxy Watches are not meant to replace traditional medical equipment, their BP measurements are generally really accurate. Their accuracy remains consistent, granted that the measurements are being taken in the way it is intended and all the guidelines are properly followed.
