Smartwatches With Jump Rope Mode
Now let us first look at all the options we have in smartwatches that come with an inbuilt jumping rope mode.
1) Amazfit GTR 3
Amazfit GTR 3 is the best smartwatch for jump rope. It tracks more than 150 sports modes, which is just mind-blowing, and Jumping Rope is one of them. So if you want a watch that does it all and tracks your skipping rope sessions too then you do not need to look any further than this.
I tested this watch for its skipping rope accuracy and I am happy to share that its jump rope tracker is pretty accurate. While testing it, I did 100 skips and the skips that it tracked were 106.
Things that I liked about its Jumping Rope mode were:
- It was very easy to pause and resume the exercise, and pressing the upper button paused the tracking.
- When I pressed the lower button it stopped the first set and started the timer for rest.
- By again pressing the lower button I was able to start another set instantly.
- It showed separate timers for the current set and the overall exercise time
- Shows you the calories that you have burnt so far
- Shows you the heart rate
- After finishing the exercise it also lets you see the set details which include the following information:
- Set duration
- Total count for rope skipping
- The average frequency of the skipping
- I was even able to set goals according to the workout effect or workout data. Work out data had the options to choose from calories burnt, total count, and total duration.
If you want more details regarding your session then you can see it on the Zepp Health app.
This is also one of the few smartwatches that come with an inbuilt Alexa. Other features of this watch include a 50M water-resistant rating, a sleep monitor, a 24/7 heart rate monitor, and much more.
If you want to know more about this watch then you can also check my detailed review video below.
2) Amazfit T-Rex Pro
Amazfit T-Rex Pro also comes with an inbuilt Jumping Rope mode and is one of the best outdoor watches for people who want to track their skipping rope sessions. As compared to 150+ sports tracking of Amazfit GTR 3, T-Rex Pro can track more than 100 sports modes.
For tracking your rope jumps, you get everything similar to what you get on the Amazfit GTR 3. Even all the settings and user interface is similar in both watches because they run on the same operating system. Therefore the accuracy of both the watches is similar and you will get similar stats on both.
If you are confused right now about which watch to get between these two then let me help you. Amazfit GTR 3 is designed and focused on people that want an everyday watch. So if you want an elegant-looking watch that you can wear to your office daily, track your workouts, and wear to parties as well then you should choose Amazfit GTR 3.
But if you are someone that loves to go on adventure trips then you should go for Amazfit T-Rex Pro. As it comes with a military-grade build quality, shock resistant, 100M water-resistant rating, inbuilt compass, barometer, and altimeter, and other features that will be particularly helpful in your adventure trips.
So, if you are someone that loves to go on adventure trips and love to do skipping rope then T-Rex Pro is the most suitable watch for you.
Fitness Tracker For Jump Rope
So these were all the smartwatches that come with an inbuilt sport mode for jump rope. Let us now look at the fitness trackers that come with a skipping rope tracker.
3) HUAWEI Band 6
HUAWEI Band 6 is one of the best fitness trackers that comes with an inbuilt jump rope mode. This fitness band can track around 96 workouts and Jump Rope is one of them. So if you do not want to spend big on a smartwatch and just want something that can track your rope skippings then look no further.
It gives you a 3 seconds timer to get into position and then you can start your rope skipping. Once you are done skipping you will be able to see a whole lot of data regarding your session.
It shows you the basic information like duration, average heart rate, calories burned, etc, that every fitness tracker shows. But what sets the HUAWEI Band 6 apart from all the fitness trackers and from smartwatches as well, is the data that it shows regarding your skipping sessions.
It shows you your average as well as the highest speed of skipping i.e. jumps/minute. You will be able to see your longest streak of jumps without tripping. And the most amazing part is that it even shows you the number of times you tripped. Which in my case was pretty accurate and I was just amazed by its accuracy.
Overall I did not expect this level of accuracy from a fitness band and I will highly recommend this if you are on the lookout for a fitness band that can measure your jump rope sessions.
Other than this, Huawei Band 6 comes with all the basic health monitors like all-day SpO2 monitoring, sleep tracking, heart rate monitor, etc. It also comes with a claimed battery life of 2 weeks and HUAWEI also claims that just 5 minutes of fast charging can give you a battery life of two days.
4) Xiaomi Mi Band 6
Xiaomi Mi Band 6 is the cheapest fitness tracker that you can buy to track your jump rope sessions. This fitness band can track only 30 sports modes, which is very less compared to other smartwatches and fitness trackers on this list. But one of these 30 sports modes is Jump Rope, which is exactly what you want, right?
If you do not already know this then let me tell you. Xiaomi does not own Amazfit, however, Amazfit does make all of Xiaomi’s smartwatches and fitness bands. Therefore the accuracy of tracking the skipping rope session of this band is similar to that of Amazfit GTR 3 and T-Rex Pro.
Like Amazfit watches, Mi Band 6 also lets you set goals based on the calories burnt, total count, and total duration. And shows you the following information after you complete your skipping session:
- The total duration of the session
- Total jumps
- Calories burnt
- Frequency of skipping
- Average heart rate
- Maximum heart rate
Other than this, the Mi Band 6 comes with a battery life of 14 days, 1.56” AMOLED display, sleep, heart rate, and stress monitor, 50M water-resistant rating, SpO2 tracker, etc.
If you really want a fitness tracker for jump rope but do not want to spend much then this is the best option for you.
Jump Rope App For Garmin Watch
If you already own a Garmin smartwatch or thinking of buying one then I have bad news for you. As of now, no Garmin watch has an inbuilt jump rope mode.
However, there are a number of third-party apps available on the Connect IQ store that you can use to track your skipping rope sessions.
One such app that is very popular among Garmin users is PlyoMetrics+. It shows you the information like total jumps, average heart rate, average and maximum jumps per minute, calories burned, etc. So I downloaded it and tested its accuracy on my Garmin Forerunner 245M. Although the accuracy of the fitness tracking sensors of Garmin smartwatches is very high, PlyoMetrics+ was not able to track my sessions accurately. It was only able to measure around 70% of my jumps.
Another drawback of this app is that it is a paid app and only offers 5 minutes of free tracking. So if you want to do long sessions then you will either have to do multiple sessions of 5 minutes each or will have to pay a premium.
Check this app on Connect IQ Store
Best Jump Rope App For Apple Watch
Sadly Apple watches do not come with an inbuilt skipping rope tracker. But you can download a third-party app from Apple App Store to help you track your jump ropes.
YaoYao – Jump Rope is an app that can help you in measuring skipping rope activity. It has a 4.7-star rating on the App Store which is fairly good. And it shows you the following information:
- Total number of jumps
- Duration of the session
- Calories burned
- The average speed of jumping
- Average and maximum heart rate
Like Amazfit smartwatches, you can also set your goals according to the duration or the number of jumps.
Skipping Rope App For Samsung Galaxy Watch
Jump rope is not on the Samsung Galaxy watch exercise list as well. It is available on the Samsung Health app however you will not be able to add this workout on your Galaxy Watch. Having said that, unlike Previous Galaxy Watches, the latest Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and 4 Classic run on Google’s Wear OS. Therefore you can download a third-party app from Google Play Store to track your jump rope sessions.
The app that I recommend for doing this is again YaoYao – Jump Rope. Yes, it is available on Google Play Store as well and has a similar user interface as well as shows the same information, as you see on Apple watches.

Should You Use A Third-Party App Or Buy A New Smartwatch?
I will highly recommend buying a new smartwatch or fitness tracker that comes with an inbuilt jump rope mode.
Because my experience with an inbuilt tracker is far superior and accurate as compared to a third-party app. And the reason is obvious, a company knows more about its sensors and trackers so it can formulate the algorithms so that the accuracy can be maximized. On the other hand, a third-party app may or may not be able to utilize the potential of watch sensors efficiently.
Therefore if you are really serious about tracking your jump ropes then getting a smartwatch with jump rope modes will make a lot of sense.
Having said that, if you can compromise a little on accuracy then you can download a third-party app on your smartwatch.
