Do Fitbits Allow Phone Calls?
Smartwatches are kind of becoming a necessity these days. And the reasons are pretty clear, they can:
- Monitor your health
- Track your workouts
- Show you phone notifications and whatnot.
The feature that people are demanding from smartwatches these days is the ability to make and receive calls. And if you are in the market to buy a brand new Fitbit smartwatch then you must be wondering about the question: Do Fitbits allow phone calls?
Well, there is good news for you. Yes, some Fitbits allow you to make as well as answer phone calls from your wrist.
Which Fitbit Can Make Calls?
So now that you know you can make and receive calls with Fitbits, the next question that you must be wondering about is: Which Fitbit can make calls?
Well, there are a very limited number of Fitbit smartwatches that can make and receive calls, and those are:
- Fitbit Versa 3
- Fitbit Versa 4
- Fitbit Sense
- Fitbit Sense 2
Let me tell you about these watches in brief before I tell you how you can make and receive calls with them.
Fitbit Versa 3
Fitbit Versa 3 is one of the best Fitbit smartwatches that let you answer as well as make calls. It comes with an inbuilt microphone and speaker, which works flawlessly during calls. When I was using this watch, I was able to hear clearly what the person on the other side of the call was saying. Also, the person was able to hear clearly what I was saying.
Having said that, the volume of the speaker of this watch is only good for indoor calling. When I was outside and tried to make calls, I couldn’t hear anything because of its low speaker sound.
The advantage of having an inbuilt speaker in Fitbit Versa 3 for me was that I was able to listen to my favorite songs directly from Spotify. Yes, this smartwatch can play music from Spotify.
Moreover, this smartwatch comes with Alexa as well as Google Voice assistant. So you will be able to use the one you like the most. However, the thing that you need to note here is that you can only use one voice assistant at a time. When I was testing this watch, I was able to use its Google Voice assistant to make calls from this watch.
When it comes to health tracking, Fitbit Versa 3 comes loaded with features, which include:
- 24*7 heart rate tracking with high and low heart rate notifications
- SpO2 monitoring
- Skin temperature tracker
- Sleep score and stages monitor
- Menstrual health tracking, making it suitable Fitbit for women.
And if we talk about fitness tracking, then also Fitbit Versa 3 didn’t disappoint me. I was able to select from 20 sports modes to track my workouts. It also told me about my cardio fitness level and how to improve it, which was just amazing.
I really liked the display quality of the Fitbit Versa 3. It displays bright and crisp text as well as colors. The always-on display of this watch also works like charm and I was able to change the Fitbit watch face to my liking.
Overall, Fitbit Versa 3 comes with a lot of features that I can go on and on about. It is the cheapest smartwatch out of all the four Fitbits that come with a calling feature. So if you are running short on budget then go right ahead and buy this one.
Fitbit Versa 4
Fitbit Versa 4 is the upgraded version of the Fitbit Versa 3. As a result, you get almost all the features that we just talked about.
So let me tell you what you do not get in Fitbit Versa 3 but get in Versa 4. The major upgrade in Versa 4 is the number of sports modes that it can track. As compared to the 20 sports modes of Versa 3, Versa 4 can track 40 workout modes.
Other than this, you get new color options in Versa 4 and a slimmer overall design. Both the watches offer similar battery life and lasted for around 4 days for me on a single charge.
Having said that, there is a difference in their charging capabilities. Versa 4 is the smartwatch that comes with fast charging support and you can get a whole day’s charge if you charge it for only 12 minutes.
Other than these, both watches give you similar features. If you want the latest Fitbit smartwatch for calling then you can buy Fitbit Versa 4.
Fitbit Sense
Fitbit Sense is the flagship smartwatch from Fitbit. It comes with all the health as well as fitness tracking features that you see in Fitbit Versa 3.
The features that you get in Fitbit Sense and not on Versa 3 are:
- ECG Monitoring: You can measure your ECG with the help of Fitbit Sense and keep better track of your heart. However, the thing that you need to know is that this feature is available only in selected countries. So before buying this watch, do not forget to check whether this feature is available in your country or not.
- PurePulse 2.0: It is the advanced heart rate sensor as compared to Fitbit Versa 3, therefore you can expect better heart rate tracking on Fitbit Sense.
- Workout Intensity Map: Fitbit Sense also shows you the workout intensity map, so that you can know when you put the most effort during your workout.
Other than these, Fitbit Sense has similar features compared to Fitbit Versa 3. You even get a similar battery life in Sense, which can last for around 4 days on a single charge in real life.
If you like to have all the features in your smartwatch then you can go for Fitbit Sense. It is one of the best Fitbit smartwatches that can make and answer calls.
Fitbit Sense 2
Fitbit Sense 2 is the latest and smartest smartwatch from Fitbit yet. It is the upgraded version of the Fitbit Sense watch. Like other Fitbit watches that we just talked about, you can make and answer calls with Fitbit Sense 2 as well.
Since it is an upgraded version of Fitbit Sense, therefore you get all the features of Sense in Sense 2. Apart from that, you also get the following features in Sense 2:
- Heart Rate Variability Tracking: Sense 2 tracks your heart rate variability so that you can know whether you are having enough sleep, overtraining, having more stress, etc.
- Wellness Report: Sense 2 also gives you a wellness and health report for the last few months so that you can know whether your health is improving or not.
- Blood Glucose Monitoring: The most notable feature that you do not get in any of the above-listed watches is the ability to measure blood glucose levels. However, the thing that you need to know is that it neither can be used as a medical device nor can be used to treat medical conditions.
If you want the latest Fitbit smartwatch through which you can answer and make calls then Fitbit Sense 2 is the watch for you.
How To Answer Calls On Your Fitbit?
Answering calls on Fitbit is pretty easy. When a call is incoming on your cell phone then you will get two buttons with the contact name on your Fitbit smartwatch, similar to what you get on smartphones. One will be the red button to reject the call and the other will be the green button to answer the call.
Simply tap on the green button and you will be able to answer the call directly from your wrist.
How To Make Calls On Fitbit?
As we saw, answering the call was pretty easy with Fitbits. However, making a call is a little tricky. You do not get any number pad or calling app on Fitbit smartwatches that you can use to enter numbers and call your family and friends. But you can make calls from it, to do that you need to take the help of the voice assistant.
As discussed earlier, you get dual voice assistants on Fitbit Versa 3, Versa 4, Sense, and Sense 2. But the thing that you need to note is Alexa voice assistant does not support calling on Fitbit smartwatches. So you will have to set the Google Voice assistant as your primary voice assistant to be able to make calls from your Fitbit.
Once done, all you have to do is say: Hey Google, call <name of the contact saved on your smartphone>.
This is how you will be able to make calls on your Fitbit smartwatches.
Fitbit Not Receiving Calls
Are you not able to receive and make calls on your Fitbit smartwatch? Do not worry, I am here to help. Let me tell you what can be the possible reasons for it and how it can be fixed.
1) Not Connected To Smartphone
The thing that you need to understand is that Fitbit smartwatches support Bluetooth calling. This means that Fitbit watches cannot make or receive calls on their own and will only do that if connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth. So if your Fitbit is not connected to your smartphone then you will not be able to receive and make calls with it.
Check if both your smartwatch and smartphone are connected and then try making calls again. Also make sure that your smartwatch and smartphone are in the range of Bluetooth, which is generally 10 meters.
2) Fitbit App Is Not Running In Background
Your Fitbit watch gets connected to your smartphone through the Fitbit app. If you close this app or if it is not running in the background then also you will not be able to make and receive calls with your Fitbit smartwatch.
Give Fitbit app the permission to run in the background if you want to make calls with the Fitbit watch.
3) On Wrist Calls Is Not Set Up
If you have not set up the On Wrist Calls on your Fitbit then also your Fitbit will not be able to receive calls. To set it up follow the below steps:
- Open the Fitbit app on your smartphone.
- Tap on your profile picture.
- Now tap on your Fitbit watch name.
- Go to the On Wrist Calls option.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and once done then tap on the Done button.
Now, you should be able to receive and make calls from your Fitbit.
4) Your Smartphone Is Not Connected To The Internet
Fitbit watches can only sync to your smartphone when your smartphone is connected to the Internet. So in case, your smartphone is not connected to the Internet then also you will not be able to make and receive calls.
5) Turn Off Sleep And DND Mode
You will also not receive calls on your Fitbit if you have turned on Sleep or DND mode on your Fitbit smartwatch. What these modes do is mute all the notifications that you get. As a result, you will not know if someone tries to call you. Therefore make sure that sleep and DND modes are turned off on your Fitbit watch.
